The Cabinet

I don't know when we lost the strong cabinet secretary but I want that person back - the person with the strong national standing and expertise that means that they can run their department and policy with strength instead of kowtowing to any mid-level White House staffer's whims.

Somewhere along the way, policy was consolidated to the White House - the Domestic Policy Council, the National Security Council, the Council of Economic Advisers. That hasn't served us well - the President should be the manager for a team that can do several things at once, instead of a bunch of politicians seeking the next thing.
